Darul Uloom - 'Alim Class
Alhumdulillah, at Jame'ah Uloomul Qur'an, Leicester a full time 'Alim course is conducted for local students.
Course Details:
The full time 'Alim Course is a six year course which is run from Monday to Friday. Classes commence from 8.30 am til 4.00 pm with an hour and forty-five minutes break (lunch and Salaah).
The students are required to return at 6.00 pm til 8.15 pm for 'Mutaala' in order to revise their work for the day and to prepare for the following day.
Anjuman is held on a weekly basis where students are required to prepare a talk (Bayaan) on a topic of their choice. The student then has to deliver a talk on that subject in front of the Darul Uloom students. This is an attempt to prepare students to be able to give talks and sermons once they graduate.
Requirements:
Enrolling students must be able to read the Qur'an with basic level of Tajweed and should also be able to read and understand basic Urdu. Students who are over the age of sixteen can only be enrolled in the Full Time Course as there are no schooling facilities.
Candidates who do not have sufficient knowledge will be required to primarily enrol in the Foundation Course which is held over a period of six months. Thereafter, candidates will be able to begin the First Year of the 'Alim Course.
If the Jame'ah feels any candidate has sufficient previous knowledge he will be exempted from the Foundation Course.
The Foundation Course, will commence from the New Year (January) and will be held for a period of six months (til June). Thereafter, candidates should be able to join the 'Alim course in the beginning of the Academic Year (August).
EMA / ALG:
Students who are eligible for the EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) can receive their weekly payments through the Jame'ah whilst doing the Full Time 'Alim course. This aids students with the payment of their fees and any other education expenses.
Similarly, the Jame'ah also meets the requirements to have its students eligible for the ALG (Adult Learning Grant).
Examinations:
- Internal assessment (twice a year):
- Mid year (winter examinations)
- End of year (summer examinations)
- External assessment - Edexcel Examination Board.
Any student who achieves less than a total percentage of forty will not be permitted to proceed to the next year.
Any student who fails two subjects will be given an opportunity to re-take the exam, failure to pass the second time or failing three subjects will result in repeating the year.
As part of the course, students study G.C.S.E & A.S level subjects. These are examined by the EDEXCEL Examination Body.
